We are grateful to Mrs Phoebé Gerwel for the donation of the late Professor Jakes Gerwel’s beloved historical home Paulet House in Somerset East, situated at the foot of the picturesque Bosberg about 200 km north of Gqeberha (PE) in the Eastern Cape. This friendly house with its old-world charm, spacious rooms, wooden floors, and luscious garden offers the ideal opportunity for writers to work in an inspiring environment on their manuscripts. With the doors of Paulet House wide open to the arts, the Jakes Gerwel Foundation fulfils its mission to give support to all writers, especially those young, aspiring writers who need a helping hand on the way to publication or performance.
