Jane Mpholo, 2022 NATi Rising Stars mentee, named finalist for Prestigious African Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) Awards

Jane Mpholo, a young, dynamic South African woman from Botshabelo in the Free State, and one of our previous mentees for the NATi Rising Stars project for emerging playwrights, has been named a finalist for the highly regarded African Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) Awards. Jane is one of three finalists in the Creative Industry Award category, a recognition of her outstanding contributions as a founder and leader in the arts.

As the founder and CEO of Jane Mpholo Pty Ltd, a theatre, film, and site-specific art company based in the Free State, Jane has been making waves in the creative sector. Her work uses art as a powerful tool for raising awareness, provoking conversations, and driving change, especially around social justice issues.

This achievement comes in what has been an exceptional year of recognition for Jane. In April 2024, she was named the Outstanding Actor in Theatre by the Department of Arts and Culture’s CCI Awards. In July, she was a finalist for the Fabulous Woman Awards, acknowledging her impactful work in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention. In August, Jane was the keynote speaker at the second annual GBV Prevention Symposium for Southern Africa, and she also earned a nomination for the 2024 DSTV Content Creator Awards in the same month. Now, with the announcement of her AWIEF finalist status in September, Jane’s work continues to receive well-deserved accolades.

Reflecting on these milestones, Jane shared:

I can safely say that this year, I have been recognized for all facets of my career (art, social impact, content creation and entrepreneurship), and I couldn’t be more grateful. A lot is happening in a very short space of time, and it all seems so surreal. I am grateful to God and my Ancestors for deeming me worthy of this glory. This is only the beginning. I am more than driven to do more.
