Frank Keizer en Frederik de Backer is laas maand by die Suid-Afrikaanse Sentrum vir Nederland en Vlaandere (SASNEV) Ontbytborrel verwelkom deur Nicolas Vandeviver van die Belgiese ambassade.
Dié twee skrywers – een in Nederland gebore en aktief in Vlaandere en een in Vlaandere gebore – is deel van die Jakes Gerwel Stigting en Passa Porta, ’n internasionale literatuurhuis in Brussel, se residensie, die 2025-Brussel tot Karoo-residensie.
Maar wat hul residensie uniek maak, is dat hulle nie hier is om ononderbroke te skryf nie, maar om met maatskaplike kwessies te werk, met mense in gemeenskappe en ander skrywers uit Suid-Afrika. Ons het ’n kulturele aksieplan – die enigste land waarin ons so iets het – wat ons gebruik om dialoog aan te moedig, samewerking en kultuuruitreiking te bewerkstellig.
Frank Keizer and Frederik de Backer were welcomed at a celebration of the South African Centre for the Netherlands and Flanders (SASNEV) last month by Nicolas Vandeviver from the Belgian embassy.
These two writers – one born in the Netherlands and active in Flanders, and one born in Flanders – are a part of the 2025-Brussels to Karoo-residency of the Jakes Gerwel Foundation and Passa Porta, an international house of literature in Brussels.
What makes their residency unique is that they’re not here to write undisturbedly, but to work with social issues with people from communities and other writers from South Africa. We have a cultural action plan – the only country in which we have one like it – that we use to encourage discourse and to achieve collaboration and cultural exchange.
