Emma Crebolder is from Limburg in the Netherlands. She studied German at the University of Utrecht and her master’s study at the University of Cologne explored the transition from oral to written literature with focus on one of the novels by the Tanzanian author Aniceti Kitereza. She taught Swahili for several years. Her collection of poems Zerftaal(1995) is the product of the time in South Africa during the 1994 elections that she could experience thanks to the Dutch Fund for Literature. Her poetry works include the polyptych Vergeten (2010),Vallen (2012),Verzoenen (2014) and Opsnuiven (2018). In 1993 she became the first poet laureate of a city, Venlo, in the Netherlands.
