Die Jakes Gerwel Stigting bied, in vennootskap met Huisgenoot en LitNet, ’n mentorskapprogram aan belowende opkomende kortverhaalskrywers.
Die skrywers sal onder leiding van ons bekwame mentor, Fourie Botha – digter, ervare uitgewer van gerekende skrywers en literêre agent, tydens die residensie skaaf aan kortverhale wat spesifiek gemik is op Huisgenoot se gesinsmark. Indien dié tydskrif na afloop van die kursus ’n skrywer se kortverhaal goedkeur, sal die skrywer daarvoor vergoed word. LitNet bied verdere blootstelling aan die jong skrywers en die projek en bied moontlike verdere publikasie-geleenthede.
Ons is trots om aan te kondig dat die bekroonde skrywer, Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu, vanjaar ons inwonende skrywer is tydens die Kommadagga-slypskool vir kortverhaalskrywers.
Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu
Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu is ’n Zimbabwiese romanskrywer en filmmaker. Sy is in 1977 in Bulawayo gebore, maar bring ’n deel van haar kinderjare in Swede deur as ’n politieke vlugteling. Sy keer terug na Zimbabwe na die land se onafhanklikheidswording in 1980. Ndlovu studeer in die Verenigde State aan die Emerson Kollege, die universiteite van Ohio en Stanford, waar sy ’n PhD in Moderne Denke en Literatuur voltooi. Sy het ook navorsing oor Saartjie Baartman gepubliseer en die regie behartig van die bekroonde kortfilm Graffiti. Haar debuutroman, The Theory of Flight (2018), wen die Sunday Times Fiksie-prys in 2019. Daarna volg The History of Man (2020) en The Quality of Mercy (2023), wat deel is van haar ‘‘City of Kings’’ trilogie. The Creation of Half-Broken People is haar jongste roman. Benewens haar skryfwerk, is Ndlovu met verskeie toekennings vereer, insluitend die Windham-Campbell-prys in 2022.
Die sluitingsdatum vir aansoeke is 25 Julie 2025 en die residensie vind van 29 September tot 19 Oktober 2025 by Paulethuis op KwaNojoli in die Oos-Kaap plaas.

The Jakes Gerwel Foundation offers, in partnership with Huisgenoot and LitNet, a mentorship programme to promising emerging short story writers.
The writers will work on their short stories that are aimed specifically at Huisgenoot’s family market under guidance of our mentor, Fourie Botha – poet, experienced publisher of acclaimed authors and literary agent. If the magazine approves a writer’s story after the workshop, the writer will be remunerated for it. LitNet offers further exposure to the young writers and the project and offers possible future publication opportunities.
We are proud to announce that the award-winning author, Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu, is our writer-in-residence this year during the Kommadagga Workshop.
Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu
Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu is a Zimbabwean novelist and filmmaker. Born in 1977 in Bulawayo, she spent part of her childhood in Sweden as a political refugee before returning to Zimbabwe after its independence in 1980. Ndlovu pursued her education in the United States, earning degrees from Emerson College, Ohio University, and Stanford University, where she completed a PhD in Modern Thought and Literature. She has also published research on Saartjie Baartman and directed the award-winning short film Graffiti. Her debut novel, The Theory of Flight (2018), received critical acclaim and won the Sunday Times Fiction Prize in 2019. This was followed by The History of Man (2020) and The Quality of Mercy (2023), which are part of her “City of Kings” trilogy. The Creation of Half-Broken People is her latest novel. In addition to her writing, Ndlovu has been recognized with several awards, including the Windham-Campbell Prize in 2022.
The closing date for applications is 25 July 2025 and the residency will take place at Paulet House on KwaNojoli in the Eastern Cape from 29 September to 19 October 2025.
