Only applications from former or current Paulet House residents will be considered. All genres are welcome. The successful writer will feel right at home in the luxurious writer’s room and have access to the rest of the elegantly renovated building’s facilities. An interesting custom-made itinerary will be planned to make sure the writer enjoys all that Stellenbosch has to offer.
The dates for these two residencies for 2024 are:
- 22 April to 6 May (closing date for applications: 1 March)
- 11 to 25 November (closing date for applications: 16 August)
Applications must be done online on the Jakes Gerwel Foundation’s website at https://jgf.org.za/residencies. Applicants must submit a motivation letter, a short writer’s bio, detailed overview of writing project and examples of current and previous writings.
Oude Leeskamer is a cultural and heritage centre situated in a historic building in Stellenbosch.
In 2017, the building became the property of the Jannie Mouton Foundation. The building was remarkably restored to now host five unique spaces, namely Jannie se Leeskamer, an art gallery, a writer’s apartment, De Eetkamer Restaurant, and the Jannie Mouton Foundation offices. Oude Leeskamer’s vision is to be a leading heritage asset with the aim of protecting historic value. At the same time, it aims to be a living space that celebrates South Africa’s unique and diverse arts and culture.
