This year’s NATi Young Stars participants (Diano October, Franka Kirby, Mikyall Harris, Mosa Rabannye and Nelandi Boshoff) have spent the last few months developing their texts into professional theater productions under the direction of Lee-Ann van Rooi and Rafiek Mammon, which debuts at Suidoosterfees 2025.

In November, play readings were staged at New Voices, a project of the festival and Artscape, with professional cast members. During this event, each NATi Young Star received valuable input from experts and peers in the industry to further refine their texts.

In the following video interviews, the playwrights, actors, directors and project sponsors share their views on the event. The interviews were made possible by BASA (Business and Arts South Africa) and are presented in collaboration with Netwerk24, one of the festival’s main sponsors. The NATi Rising Stars project is supported by NATi, the Jakes Gerwel Foundation, Artscape and Suidoosterfees.
