Artscape and the Suidoosterfees, in association with the City of Cape Town, proudly present their New Voices programme supported by NATi (Nasionale Afrikaanse Teater-inisiatief) and the Jakes Gerwel Foundation.
Artscape’s New Voices programme focuses on staging new work by established and first-time writers in theater and the performing arts. Their mission is to showcase “new voices” that add something original, innovative and fresh to the theatre landscape.

Artscape had a public call for applications in May and we are delighted that seven of our writers have been accepted into their 2024 New Voices programme:
- Diano October, participant in the NATi Rising Stars residency in 2024
- Mikyall Harris, participant in the NATi Rising Stars residency in 2024
- Mosa Rabannye, participant in the NATi Rising Stars residency in 2024
- Nelandi Boshoff, participant in the NATi Rising Stars residency in 2024
- Franka Kirby, participant in the NATi Rising Stars residency in 2024
- Miliswa Mbandazayo, participant in the NATi Rising Stars residency in 2023
- Zubayr Charles, participant in the Kommadagga workshop in 2020
These writers’ work will be showcased during Artscape’s 2024 New Voices season running from 1 to 26 October 2024. The festival will be featuring 8 staged readings, 2 full productions and one radio drama. Six of our writers (Zubayr Charles, Diano October, Mikyall Harris, Mosa Rabannye, Nelandi Boshoff and Franka Kirby) will be showcasing their work as part of the staged readings and one (Miliswa Mbandazayo) as a full production.
