All-round entertainer Noxolo Kheswa believes in growing and creating music at a level “where you get to see how good you are and can improve yourself without thinking twice.”
KwaZulu Natal-born Noxolo who now resides in Pretoria finds expression as an Afro-pop soul vocalist, actress, presenter, and entrepreneur, often performing at restaurants, lounges, and at events.
With her deep passion for ancestral Afro-pop, Afro-soul, Afro-tech, and soulful amapiano, Noxolo says she is “always looking forward to being challenged” and taking things to the next level.
While as an artist, Noxolo says she already has her own understanding of creativity and initiation and adds “that there is a lot I will grasp from this mentorship”, especially, learning how to “accommodate the audience with sound”.
“I have so many things that I would like to initiate in my sound that will make it unique. I personally want to create my own thing, not that it cannot be done by anyone but that it sounds new to them. With songwriting, I noticed that you could be flexible with it as long as the song is not flat,” she says.
Noxolo is one of five 2022 Jakes Gerwel Foundation songwriters who will be in mentorship with acclaimed musicians and theatre makers Frazer Barry of Tribal Echo and Zolani Mahola of Freshly Ground-fame. The sounds they create at Paulet House will be showcased at Suidoosterfees 2023.
