Und doch, der erste Fall dieser Art ist es nicht, vielleicht nicht einmal der berühmteste und schon gar nicht der eindeutigste. Für den stehen gleich zu Beginn des Matthäus-Evangeliums die Heiligen Drei Könige. Sie sind im Auftrag des Herodes unterwegs, das Kind zu finden. Doch statt dem Auftraggeber Bericht zu erstatten, verlassen sie Bethlehem und das Evangelium und verschwinden für immer.

And yet, the first case of its kind it’s not, maybe not even the most famous and certainly not the clearest one. For the same stand at the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew, the three wise kings were on a mission from Herod, to find that child. But instead of reporting to the client, they leave Bethlehem and the Gospel and disappear forever.
