Cape Town film Carissa, a project by Durban FilmMart SA Jumpstart alumni has been selected as one of the seven work-in-progress films to be viewed at the 11th edition of Final Cut in Venice which runs from September 3-5, reports Durban FilmMart SA.
Carissa is written by Jason Jacobs and Devon Delmar and is produced by Deidre Jantjies (Na Aap Productions) and co-produced by Annemarie du Plessis,
The film is set in a quiet village and is “about a young woman who is pushed by her grandmother to apply for a job opportunity on a new golf estate being developed in the mountains. However, when she learns that the estate will be built over her estranged grandfather’s rooibos tea lands, she is confronted with a difficult choice: take the job or take over the land.”

Final Cut in Venice, provides support for the completion of films from Africa and five Middle Eastern countries: Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon,
Variety reports that working copies of the seven selected films will be presented to producers, buyers, distributors, post-production companies and film festival programmers. The first two days are for screenings and the final day is set aside for on one-on-one meetings between project producers and other professionals who form part of the festival’s industry division the Venice Production Bridge
