We have been raised to love our children and forget our true feelings about them and what they bring. Women hide so many truths that behind closed doors, many of us feel ashamed and cry ourselves to sleep. Why would one talk about the horrible side of motherhood when all you see is mothers talking about how blessed they are, how wonderful being a mom is?
I can count on two hands the many women who said to me “you are blessed, do you know how many women wish to have children,” every time I opened my mouth about how exhausting the twins can get. You would think they would relate but instead they judge.
Jane Mpholo is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, entrepreneur, and changemaker from Botshabelo, South Africa. As CEO of Jane Mpholo Pty Ltd, she is pioneering work in theatre, film, and site-specific performance art. The first recipient of the CCIA’s “Outstanding Actor in Theatre” award, she has performed, written, and produced for national and international stages. Honored with two honorary awards from Onalerona Productions NPC and the Southern Region Women in Media Awards, she is a mentor, producer, and advocate for inclusivity.
